TITLE  : Her Course
AUTHOR : Andi Rajawali
PAGE   : 3 of 5
During my lunch break, she accosted me again and we had a nice chat before she started the thing all over again. She said:

" I have a Malaysian flatmate. She’s an idiot, she told all other British girls in the flat that Malaysia got her independence before Singapore.... Malaysia was not independent until 1965. We got independence in 1963!!!".

By that time, I was really peeved with her. I could no longer be as polite as before. With a harsh voice, I told her:

"If she is an idiot, then so am I .... I wonder who is an idiot here, myself or the people who wrote your country’s history...".

Then she realised that I was mad at her. Still, she continued to pursue her course - to prove that Singapore is more superior than Malaysia. She said:

"What’s wrong? That is the truth; right? Singapore got her independence in 1963..."

This time I stormed her with my arguments:

"That is the truth, yes.... Singapore got her independence in 1963. But, Singapore was not a country on its own until 1965. Singapore was part of Malaysia in 1963. We got independence in 1957 as The Malay States Federation, and we persuaded British to include Singapore and Borneo in the federation in 1963."
